A Demonstration of the Life of God

Speech Class

Some of our high schoolers have been learning to give impassioned, public speeches spurring people to action. One Sunday morning recently, several of them shared their speeches with us. Here are some excerpts.

Quinn: Envisioning his own brothers homeless and hungry helped him support his household’s decision to save money on groceries so they could support Mercy Homes in India.

Noah: Impoverished children in India have a grim future. If we give to these kids, how much will they give back to the world? Wouldn’t we want somebody to do that for us? God has blessed this country with money, shouldn’t we share with them?

Nichole: India is 1/3 of the world’s poor. One third!

Greg: Every 3 seconds a child dies from hunger. Only 50 cents could have saved a child’s life.

Samantha: We have a choice whether to help the sick, starving, suffering children or not. “I thought my life was hard, having too much homework. An orphan’s only choice is whether to die or not.”

Rebecca: Rebecca first described the beauty of Africa, then the harsh realities of slavery, prostitution, and human trafficking affecting children.

Brendan: No child should have to wonder if they will get to eat today or if they will be sold into slavery. These children are important to God.

Timothy: What would you do if you had to wear the same clothes every…single… day? Timothy introduced the SALT and Mercy Home Ministries. “We are not asking for your money, but your hearts.”

Zube: Hunger, poverty, disease, loneliness. If we were born anywhere else, this could be us.

Aubrey: Hopefully, we can think differently tomorrow than we do today. We all aspire to climb higher, but the path to doing that is through low things. If we can create an awareness of these diseases, we can save lives. The world needs to act now. Are you ready?

Ashelie: How would we feel if you had to sell your children into slavery because you couldn’t afford to feed and care for them? We need to get out of our own little world, look around us, and actually care enough about what goes on in different places that we take action.
